UPDATE: Postponement of the 1st International Conference on Mechanics for Global Challenges

Dear Delegates,

The organising committee of ICMGC 2021 and ICMAT 2021 recently met and reviewed the COVID-19 situation both internationally and locally in Singapore. While most countries are slowly containing the virus, we are seeing resurgent cases in some countries easing lockdown measures. International travel is still limited with airlines and governments exploring new ways for safe travel.

After carefully discussing the implications and in the interests of the conference and for the safety of its participants, we concluded that postponing the conference is the most responsible decision for our community.

The new dates for the Conference are 19th – 24th June 2022.
It will be held in conjunction with ICMAT 2022 (https://icmat2022.mrs.org.sg)

The postponement implies that all deadlines will be pushed back accordingly. Please check the website for updates.

We look forward to meeting you in Singapore in 2022!

Yours sincerely,

Huajian Gao
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, ICMGC

Mechanics, originated in Ancient Greece by Aristotle and Archimedes, and rigorously formulated by Newton, Lagrange and Hamilton, has made remarkable contributions to the science and technology development, and to the civilization of mankind. During the long history of mechanics, various sub-fields and sub-disciplines have been developed, such as solid mechanics, structure mechanics, fluid mechanics, biomechanics, geomechanics, computational mechanics etc.

Currently, mankind is facing many grand challenges including, for example, the current COVID-19 pandemic and other public health concerns, as well as food shortage, environmental pollution, global warming, energy shortage, aging, etc. Trained in mechanics and equipped with new scientific research tools and methods, mechanicians are today actively engaged in addressing a wide variety of problems related to these challenges, ranging from new materials, energy, biology, food and health technologies, electronic devices, manufacturing, robotics and devices.

We are pleased to announce the first International Conference on Mechanics for Global Challenges (ICMGC 2022) which is aimed to establish a premier platform to discuss the important roles of mechanics in addressing these global challenges. We anticipate a group of world’s renowned, mid-career and young mechanics researchers and practitioners participating in the conference. We hope ICMGC will provide an ideal platform for generations of researchers to intermingle and interact with world-renowned leaders in the mechanics field.

We welcome you to join us at ICMGC 2022!
